Florence May Hartough
Hi John,

I don't know if I forwarded a news article to you or not that mentions Florence May or not. I would love to send it to you. It talks about Ben Doty mostly and how supposedly he is related to Walt Whitman. It says that Florence has several pictures of Ben with Walt Whitman. Pictures? I want them! I'm going to go the the Walt Whitman birth place and talk to the historian there (i live right down the road) to help confirm the relation to him and maybe they have the picture. That would be SO COOL if we had a connection to Whitman.

Have you heard over the years that we may be related to him? I have heard that all my life and now I have the article that says the same thing. But that is the only thing I have found. I need to dig deeper.

Florence Doty Hartough
Hi John, We are cousins! Florence Hartough is my GGG Grandfathers daughter. Benjamin Doty
B-1826 D-1910. I just love the pix you have posted. I am in desperate need of photos. So thank you for the ones you have posted here. If you have any of the Doty family, I would love it if you would share them with me. I have a picture that you may be interested in for sure. That is if you don't have it already. It is of Benjamin Doty. He was the 1st ever fire chief (called Foreman back then) of the Cold Spring Harbor Fire Dept. It is of him in his fireman uniform. I am from CSH and still live in Huntington.

Benjamin d. 1891 - Kansas
What do you have on the son Benjamin who died in Witchita, Kansas ? He's not at Huntington Rural & doesn't show on Find-A-Grave in Kansas, but I assume is buried in Witchita. The brother William who died in the Civil War did NOT show up on a search either - I left out that short but important word "not" in an earlier message.
Keep in touch,

Mary Hartough {1860-1933}
She's listed - unmarried - in father's 1892 obit. Not in the Huntington Rural Index as Hartough. Did she marry after 1892 ? Some of this may be in my Thomas Conklin mss - I'll need to search for all of this. But, this is far as I can go now adding to Find-A-Grave until more info comes along.

William Brewster Hartough
According to Benjamin's 1892 obit, William died in the Civil War. Do you have anything more on him ? He's not in the Huntington Rural Cem. Index, but did show on a Find-A-Grave search. I did find a lead for you: a William Hartough {1859-1915} from Somerset, New Jersey, int. Burns Cem, Burns, Oregon - a parallel line of yours ? If William B. is buried "unknown" he may be difficult to find.

Isaac Hartough
He is not mentioned in Benjamin's 1892 obit. I assume he died as a child ? Do you know anything about him ?

Hartough - Huntington, L. I.
Benjamin V. D. Hartough & family are in my Thomas^4 Conklin study. Deborah Wood descends from Thomas - so all these people are distant relatives of mine. Based on what you sent & Benjamin's 1892 obit - I've added one more person to Find-A-Grave - son John Henry, who died in 1883 & is buried at Huntington Rural. I need to look this entire family up in my Conklin mss.

I apologize for the incorrect links on the Hartough's at Huntington Rural. I love all the great photos you've added. it's so nice to put a face to the names and dates. If you would like photos, please put in the requests. I have them, I just need to go back through the files. If you want me to add more to their bios or would like to manage them for yourself, just let me know and I will transfer them. Welcome to findagrave!
