Gary Harding is an ethnologist/ethnomusicologist from Seattle, Washington. He is editor of the Rutherfords of Hunthill family history, "The Rutherfords of Roxburghshire" and genealogist and herald for the Clan Rutherford.

Gary earned a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education in 1972 and in 1975 a Master of Arts in Music from Washington State University.

Between the years of 1975 and 1985 he did field studies in cultural anthropology focusing on Brazilian and Cuban ethnomusicology, conducted in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
