I was born in British Columbia and raised around the many lakes by my parents in the 1950's and 1960's. I enjoy FLY FISHING many of the thousands of lakes in British Columbia, and teaching others that enjoy the same passion. I have enjoyed working on genealogies and attending several DIRKS REUNIONS in Waldheim, Saskatchewan. I started my research in the early 1980's and finished writing my DIRKS HISTORY BOOK after 15 years of research in 1998 to mark over 100 years since our ancestors came to America and landed in New York in 1874. They settled at Marion, South Dakota and Pawnee Rock, Kansas. 1899 also marked over 100 years since they came to Canada from South Dakota. In 1899 my great grand parents Benjamin & Helena Dirks left Marion Junction, South Dakota with their 6 children and headed north via train to what was then known as the Northwest Territories and their final stop at the "END OF THE STEEL" is now Rosthern, Saskatchewan, Canada and settled west of Rosthern in an area later known as Waldheim, Saskatchewan. This was their final move and where my grand parents Isaac and Annie Dirks started their lives together and raised their family.
