Bio and Links
Bio Photo My husband, Kevin, and I have been pursuing genealogy since 2010. What fun! It has changed our lives and lead us down many paths. Our families, in the 19th century, mostly came from Tennessee, Mississippi, and Pennsylvania. Find A Grave has been a great tool. Who knew people spend so much time in cemeteries?

Your very welcome......Hey i just came across a wedding announcement for another of your memorials....it is for Thomas Fite Paine (114561817) and Mary Alice Therrell...I can not find Mary Alice, but Thomas is yours. Seems weird that she is not buried beside him since the one you have linked to him was only like 4 years old when him and Mary Alice were married. The wedding was some time before Oct 7, 1910.... Would you like me to type it out for you???

RE: May "Mae" Eliza Rutherford Stewart
I have no stake in whether her name is spelled May or Mae, since I'm not related to her. I usually use what's on the gravestone so that there's less chance of someone making a duplicate memorial because they are looking for the spelling on the stone and not considering the other ways the name might have been spelled. It's not so bad with the spelling of May and Mae because both would be listed with the M first names. However, consider a name such as Cathy, which could also be spelled Kathy. Someone looking for one spelling might not see the other spelling because they could be several pages away from each other in a listing of a very common surname, such as Smith.

I would also consider who might have provided the information for that gravestone. If family members buried the deceased and commissioned the stone, shouldn't they know best how to spell his or her name?

In the case of one of my ancestors, he was named Lewis, after his uncle of the same spelling. However, sometime during his lifetime, he started spelling it Louis, possibly because that was a more popular spelling as time went by.

Information about other spellings and what documents they appear on can be detailed in the bio section.
