Bio and Links
Bio Photo I inherited an interest in genealogy from my mother, who researched her family and my father's family in the 1970s and 80s. A family trip to eastern Kentucky in Summer 2011 led me to Find a Grave. I have enjoyed taking volunteer photos and learning more about the history of Centre County, PA. I mainly visit cemeteries in southern Centre County and part of Huntington County. I am willing to check cemetery records if you have a request (almost all of the Centre County cemeteries are indexed). You may use any pictures I have taken for your genealogy research.

Family Surnames: Hass, Hoppe (Iowa, Minnesota) - Rueve (Ohio, Minnesota) - Johnson, Gouge, Crace, Conley, Jayne, Wilson (all eastern Kenucky and/or North Carolina)

Corrections for John Wesley Biddle grave
Hi Carla,

John Wesley Biddle was my great-grandfather. The dates carved on his stone are incorrect. According to his death certificate, he was born April 3, 1844 and died July 27, 1923. He enlisted in the Union Army on August 15, 1862, so you can see that if the dates on the stone were correct, he would have been 8 years old!

Also please note that there are two other Find A Grave entries for this same burial plot. #31150119 is the most accurate of the three; #23045309 is also incorrect, listing him as a Revolutionary War soldier!

RE: Meta Schwoch Info
Hi Carla
I know I sent you an email ~5 months ago but as find-a-grave doesn’t seem to keep the old correspondence I kind of forget what all I had passed on to you before.
I’m assuming the William you are referring to is a Hass. Most my family history is following the Schwoch side of things.
I have Charles Schwoch (5/15/1876 - 5/26/1935) married (4/16/1902) to Mattie (Meta) Dorthea Hass (4/4/1882 – 2/20/1961). Barnum Mn
They had 5 children;
1. Pearl (1903 – 1914). Barnum Mn
2. Gus Schwoch (11/27/1904 – 9/9/1984) (Gus is my grandfather on my mother’s side). White Bear Lake
3. Ruth (6/12/1908 – 3/8/1979)(Ruth married (9/4/1927) Chris Hope Nelson (5/25/02 – 6/6/1981) Barnum/Duluth Mn area
4. Otto (1/4/1911 – 8/28/1940). ? You refer to an Otto in latest email, is this who we’re talking about? I have Otto married to Hazelle Collins (3/30/1935)
They had 3 children;
a. Gordon (1936)
b. Gerald (1937)
c. Jeanette (1939)

5. Edward (8/31/1915 – 2011) Barnum Mn

Hi Michael -

Sorry it took me so long to do this - I'm not in Find a Grave that much these days. I was able to link Otto to Meta. Do you know what Ruth's married name was? There is a Ruth Nelson in the same cemetery and the birth/death years match but nothing else to show that she is Meta's daughter. I am William’s granddaughter. The Hass family history has been well documented by Dan Hass (another grandchild of Williams from his first marriage. Dan put together a video that is up on your tube - No royal blood there :-). Dan has a family tree up in Ancestry - apparently he has also submitted a DNA sample. I've just done that so it should show that we are related.

RE: Conley
Thank you for your quick response and your generous offer. My Father had done some research back in the early 90’s I wanted to bring you up to speed on my request back in the early nineties and got pretty far given the time period and circumstances. This request could involve sensitive information and I did not want cause any problems with it.

Is it okay to correspond via email? My email address is ebrown9154? If I am doing something outside of the rules I apologize in advance.

I am doing some genealogy research. Going thru some file folders, of my Father who passed away a little while back, and came across a letter from a possible relative of yours(maybe based upon the last name) It was dated in 1992. I was wondering if you had an email address where I could follow up this info and answer some questions I have about my Father's lineage

Can you tell me who owns the cemetery? Who would need to be contacted if someone wanted to restore and maintain the cemetery?

Louise Josephine Young
I photographed the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Barnum, MN in 2013 and sent info to you that I thought should be added. I thought you might like to know that the bush this tall stone was in, is gone. The small stones leaning against it are gone too. :-(
The single small stone for Louise Josephine that stands alone is cleaner, easier to read now.

It's been 2 years since I sent that info, so maybe that big bush has grown back by now.

Cora & Agnes Bitner
Carla, I can't tell you how much I appreciate the photos you posted, especially the one which proves that their husband Henry F Bitner (a first cousin of my grandfather) is buried with them. In my research I lost track of Henry after he left Lewisburg in the 1930s. It took several years until I found a clue in a letter he had written to another cousin in Minnesota which eventually enabled me to track him to Elmira NY and there I learned the rest of the story except I didn't know where he was buried. Thanks for solving that problem. I've posted a memorial for him (# 130332661) and I would greatly appreciate it if you could post a photo on it.
