Indian Creek is the Township in which the Village of Norris City is located in White Co.Illinois.Kern Doerner is the supervisor of Indian Creek Township.

After seven years of work and research, Indian Creek Township is pleased to announce that the “Doerner Project” is now complete. The project is an accumulation of information on all the local cemeteries in the township. These include Delap, Ditney Ridge, Ebenezer, Edward, Johnson Langfor, Mt. Olive, Mt. Oval. Odd Fellows, Powell, Sharon, Union, Village and Walter Cemeteries.

All of this began with the reference book, “Cemeteries of White County,” which was published in 1970 by Harriet Vaught, Margaret Land, Nigle Johnson, Lois Shelton, Len Wells, and Ella Barnes. The span of this information is over 100 years now, including the information compiled by Indian Creek. There may be some omissions and incorrect dates, but it is believed to be at least 85% correct.

There was a rich history of Civil War and other war veterans in the area, and that information has been passed to another researcher. A site was set up at findagrave.com and anyone can access the records there. A hard copy is available at the Norris City Library.

The Township gives special thanks for all of the local help with this project: Township Supervisor Kern Doerner, who initiated the project; Joe Skaggs who continues working on stone restoration and platting of the cemeteries; Shelia Albright who compiled the information on Union Cemetery; Eileen Mayberry who took thousands of photos of the head stones; John Delap who provided information on Mt. Oval and Delap Cemeteries; Charles Edwards who assisted on the Village Cemetery; and Campbell Funeral Home who supplied many funeral records. If not for these people, this cemetery project would not have been possible.
