Family history and cemeteries have been a fascination of mine many years. There was a small cemetery across the road from land my grandfather homesteaded in Kansas with graves with our family name. 'Dad, who are those people?,' was an early question of mine.

Then, each Memorial Day, I stayed with my favorite aunt in a nearby town; it had the cemetery of our extended family. We would gather blooms all round her small town as neighbors shared flowers to decorate those graves. I learned about our family and hers as we placed our bouquets at grave sites. Now, many years later there are many more cemeteries where I feel this personal connection.
