I found my passion in life when I discovered Genealogy in 1992! That's when I learned one of my family lines led me from St. Charles Parish, Louisiana to Old Gretna, in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana and the families (particularly the German families) that lived there in the 1800's.

Much of my information from old Gretna families comes from burials listed in the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gretna as well as probate records, obituary and death notices. The Hook and Ladder Cemetery has a special place in my heart, however, there are no records of earlier burials as there was a fire and many burial records are not available. The same is true for McDonoghville Cemetery where burials before about 1942 are incomplete or non-existent (courtesy of information obtained from Joseph Mann, fellow Find-A-Grave member and friend who talked to the appropriate officials at the cemetery).

I do my best to NOT name living individuals. I also check the obituaries and the Louisiana State Death Indexes - both from the Louisiana Secretary of State Office and from Ancestry.com. I have also researched in person many probate records from these Gretna families. When in doubt about something, I will try to track them down through birth, marriage, death and census records.

Besides St. Charles and Jefferson Parishes, most of my family lines are in southern Louisiana (with a few exceptions).
