I am a native of Baldwyn, Mississippi as is my wife Clarene Evans-Houston. I am retired from a US Government position and am interested in genealogy and American Civil War related history. I am descended from the Houston/Huston/Houstoun family of Lanarkshire, Scotland beginning with Hugh De Padunian, our progenitor in the 11th century. My closest ancestors left Scotland and emigrated first to Pennsylvania, then North Carolina, then Marshall County Tennessee. When land was offered in Mississippi after the Treaty of Pontotoc in the 1830s my Houston family moved to Lee county. After a long search my relationship with the famous General/Governor Sam Houston of Texas has been determined 8th great uncle. My mother's family (Bartlett from England) is in Tippah county, MS.
I now live in Northeast Mississippi, Lee county.
