From a headstone in Ireland

Since I stumbled accross Find A Grave in Nov 2012, I have found it very useful in my family history research on the Mendes, Keith, Griffin, Roberts, Terry, McIntyre, Hagan, Phillips and extended families. From Scotland, Ireland & the Azores, to the East Coast and throughout the United States, west to California.

I will be more than happy to transfer any non-family memorials, or relationships that are closer to you, that I've created or care for.

Thank you to all the Find A Grave Members who have allowed me to care for family Memorials that they have created and posted pictures for me. You are appreciated more than you know!

If you are family and would like to view my research on ancestry.com send me a message for an invite. Tell me who you are! Discovering family I did not know I had has been a blessing!

Permission is given to copy and use any photos I've posted for use in family trees and research. I agree with JMFerguson Member #47015825 "The obvious usefulness (of this site) is to people who are trying to find their relatives and piece their family stories together."

RE: Erwin in Riverside Cemetery, Medford MN
Hi Cindy, Thanks for the quick reply about the Erwin's. As I have been to this cemetery a few times I have looked for Orpha Erwin with no luck yet. I plan to go again this fall yet so may get lucky then.
I may have found the information about Samuel F Erwin I was looking for. [ERWIN SAMUEL F. 16/FEB/1821 13/DEC/1899 63 MD 8 RIVERSIDE - RSE RSE E VET. BORN IN NEW YORK STATE. DIED BUTTERFIELD, MN. RCJ. 31/JAN/1900] This copy came from something I have used a couple of times called Dalby Database, http://www.dalbydata.com The dates are very close to what my photo looks like but the years shown would make him too old to be a brother of Edwin, or a son of Orpha as she was born in 1820. I will make a page for him showing this information and the photo I took, but I will be doing some more legwork to make sure it is as accurate as possible. I also found a tidbit on this same site about an infant son of Samuel as follows [ERWIN BABY DEC/1892 63 MD 8 RIVERSIDE - RSE RSE AGE 14 WKS. CHILD OF SAMUEL. REP, 28/DEC/1892. PROBABLE BURIAL.]
Last question based on some of your virtual cemeteries. Are you from or do/did you have relatives in the Newport RI area. Several generations of my Barker family direct line lived there starting around the mid 1600's. Looking forward to sharing more information soon. Regards, Vern B

Erwin in Riverside Cemetery, Medford MN
Hi Cindy,
Not sure if you remember but I helped you locate the correct cemetery for Edwin Erwin back in June. I have visited that small cemetery again a couple of months ago and took a photo of a marker for a Samuel Erwin that is fairly close to Edwin's marker. DOB appears to be Feb 8 182? something and DOD possibly Dec 13 189? something. There appears to be no memorial page for him so was wondering if your information might include another Erwin family member. Any information you might have could be helpful. Regards, Vern B

Hi Cindy,
You are absolutely right! Thank you for pointing the discrepancy out.
I changed her birthdate to April 1920, as per the 1900 census, but will research it when I get a chance (which won't be for a couple of weeks - family emergency).
Thank you,
Chloe

Cindy, Yahoooo! we got it done!!! I checked your "new" page for Edwin and all looks great. I have a couple of questions for you, how did you happen to place Edwin in the Union Cemetery when you first created his page? I am glad we got it figured out as I have just last week spent about 5-6 hours in Union Cemetery. I have several relatives buried there including my grandparents, and I am determined to bring the percentage level of photographed markers there up considerably. I was born in Owatonna not far from Medford and lived there for my first 3 years. Also I always try to ask what part of the country are you located in? Sorry your other photo requests are a bit to far for a day trip, but who know where Find A Grave wil take me. Enjoy the day. Regards, VernB

Hi Cindy, sometimes we work really quick and much thanks to Tom Mauer who has transferred his page
# 48954416 to you. You can now make all the instant edits you want to complete name, birth and death dates, and add your links and what ever else you like. The photo's stayed intact so you have those already in place. When you are completely done with your changes you can delete your original one in Union Cemetery and there will then be only one correct page. Hope this helps! Best wishes,
Regards, VernB

RE: Edwin Erwin Memorial# 130844313
Hello again Cindy, I have pasted the note I sent to the fellow that created the other page. I hope my suggested changes would work if he agrees to help and that the proposed solution is acceptable to you if he chooses to comply. Regards, VernB

Hello Tom, While looking through your virtual cemeteries for Steele County I noticed Edwin Erwin # 48954416 which you created in 2010. This name rang a bell because I have been looking for him in Union Cemetery in Medford while trying to fulfill a photo request. The reason I was looking in Union Cemetery was a relative of his (Cindy Find A Grave member #47985327) had created a memorial page for him #130844313 in 2014 and somehow located him in Union Cemetery. No wonder I couldn't locate a marker! Her page contains more complete family information, names dates and links. Yours obviously contains the photo's. I contacted her when I realized the error and told her I would help clear up the duplication. She has since deleted her photo request but left the page intact for now. The best/easiest way I can think of if you would agree is to transfer your page to her to keep the photo credits intact and then she can edit/add the extra information easily back in. When that is complete she can delete her original page, leaving only one correct page intact. If you have another possible solution that works please let me or Cindy know. Thank you for you consideration and the amazing job you have done with the Civil War Vets. Regards, VernB

Good, you have deleted your request in Union Cemetery. Don't do anything else yet until I have a chance to look into a merge of his two pages. I will get it figured out in the next couple of days. Regards, VernB

Noticed that you left flowers and RIP note for my mother. How very kind. Do I understand that you are descended from John Bailey Keith?
