FAGs new policy of auto transfers are a travesty. Such transfers deprive the memorial creator the opportunity to polish the memorial with other information they may have before transfer, and they make courteous transfers impossible -- replacing them with a cold, anonymous, robotic process. Often I do have additional information, but once a memorial is "taken" I do not touch the memorial further, for any reason. How to recognize the difference. A memorial transferred by me always includes my flower. A memorial taken will not.

A further note on requests on your distant family members. More often than you would think, multiple requests are received. This seems to be the results of some other update made the memorial, bringing it to the attention of multiple people. These transfer requests are often made because the individuals claim to want to make extensive updates. When I receive multiple requests where a transfer is not required, I will generally hold them and inform both parties I am doing so and that they are welcome to submit their edits while I evaluate. Most of the time, the pushiest people submit nothing further whereas a person genuinely interested will start to submit edits. That is the person I generally transfer to.

MESSAGES: If you message me but have your own messages turned off, it's unlikely that I'll accommodate whatever you asked for.

PHOTOS OF TEMPORARY MARKERS: What is a temporary marker? It is a paper marker at the gravesite by the cemetery as a placeholder for a permanent marker. It's not possible to tell whether a temporary marker may be all that ever marks the individual's grave, so I generally do photograph them. However, if you come across a memorial where a photo of a permanent marker has replaced my photo of a temporary one, I'd appreciate you letting me know so that I can remove it. Note that I will not remove my photo because you like another photo better, because you took your own photo, because you have some notion about who should put a photo on a memorial, if it was a memorial created by me and auto-transferred, or if I believe my view shows something of value in some other way.

VOLUNTEER PHOTOS: I primarily photo at Santa Ana, Forest Lawn Glendale and locations in Plumas, Butte, and sometimes Sutter counties. Please be kind to your volunteers. Many cemeteries are difficult to navigate, and have overgrown brush around markers, uneven ground and sometimes sinkholes, and more wildlife than you might expect. Not to mention sprinklers that sometimes start up very unexpectedly! It's not always possible to take an ideal photo, although most of us try very hard.

CEMETERY RULES: Some cemeteries prohibit photography in certain areas. If you've requested a photo for a loved one who rests in such an area, please recognize we can't always accommodate you. Many volunteers form relationships with the cemetery workers and managers, and breaking their rules can lead to us being asked not to return. So if you receive a note stating your request is for such an area, please consider contacting the cemetery to request they change their policy. If enough people ask, the policy may change or you may at least get permission for us to photograph a particular marker.

TRANSCRIPTIONS of my photos: Finally finished, but leaving the info below as a reference.

If you are transcribing my Italian photos, the following will prove helpful:
* ved - stands for vedova (widow), meaning the wife outlived her husband.
* in - means the wife predeceased the husband
* Most of the time, markers are Last name first for men. For women the format is usually Maiden Name, First Name ved/in Married Name. So "Pesce Maria in Marchelli" means the first name is Maria, maiden name is Pesce, and married name is Marchelli and she died before her husband.
* coniugi - means married. Example: Pesce Giovanni coniugi Parodi Maria means Giovanni Pesce married Maria Parodi and her married name is Pesce, maiden name Parodi.
* fu means the name that followed is deceased. di means still alive. So "Pesce Maria fu Giovanni" means her father was Giovanni and he was deceased when she died.
* Most names are easy to recognize as male or female. However, Andrea is a male name in Italy.
* Historically, Italians named their first 2 boys and 2 girls after the grandparents. This means that particularly for men, there can be many "Giovanni Pesce"s as each son of the original Giovanni Pesce will name his first son after his father. For the photos I've uploaded, there should mostly be no existing memorials so if FG suggests a duplicate, please look carefully at the dates. The name is probably not a duplicate but another individual of the same name.
* Dates: Most markers just contain the year, but when the contain the full date, the format is dd-mm-yyyy. So 3-8-1887 is August 3, 1887.
* In Italian, "nata" means born so "nat." or "n" followed by a year is the year of birth. Similarly, "morte" is death, so "mort" or "m." is the year of death -- it's not marriage! Marriage would be "matrimonio" or "mat" (but the marriage date would almost never appear on an Italian marker).
