I grew up in the Buffalo Springs community of Mecklenburg, County, Virginia and was an early historical enthusiast. When the "Roots" mini series came along I jumped head first into family history. Through the years, I have added here and there. My dad's family has been in Mecklenburg County since the 1760's and my mom's in Halifax County, Virginia for just about the same time.

Now in Indiana for the entirety of my adult life, I serve as a township trustee, am employed by a business that is part of what makes our city, "Indiana's Furniture Capital," and have enjoyed a variety of church involvement. We enjoy our community where I serve on the Tree Board.

Family names in Mecklenburg County include Burnett, Bowen, Royster, Sizemore, Vaughan, Davis... though some of these may have straddled the Halifax or N. C. line at times. In Halifax County family names are Hodges, Sparrow, Irby, Brown, Crews, Bomar, Bruce in the northern portion of the county and Royster around the Aarons Creek area.

One of the most exciting events of family research was learning recently that I am related to Nancy Reagan, the Bushes, Woodrow Wilson's second wife, Edith, and Mrs. Robert E. Lee through Robert Bolling of colonial Virginia. Of course one must realize if we trace far enough back, we all have someone to brag about!
