Bio

Living in North Yorkshire, UK with my American husband Jim and 5 cats. Jim and I morph into Santa and Mistress Holly Claus in December, and we are on the Santa Special trains that run between Pickering and Levisham with NYMR. UPDATE: Retired from the Santa Special Trains after the end of the 2016 Season.

One of my special interests is Family Research, into my husbands' BROOKS and SCHWARTZ lines, that have branches in Virginia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Georgia and Alabama Louisiana and Kansas. Plus my own Family lines, SELBY, WINSTANLEY, HALL, MALLABY, PYBUS, and ILLINGWORTH.

I have the Memorial pages for a large number of my husband's ancestors, plus the War Graves of three of my family, my maternal grandmother's brother, my Great Uncle, Pvt. Bernard Hall, Sgt. George William Selby, a 1st Cousin 3 x removed, from my Selby line, and Pvt. William Hutchinson Pybus from my Pybus line on this site.

April 7th, 2017 I went to France, staying in Lievin, just 3 miles from the Vimy Memorial. On the 9th I joined around 25,000 other visitors to attend the 100th Anniversary of the Battle for Vimy Ridge, it was a very hot day, we were sat baking for 6+ hours in 22 degree centigrade blazing sun. Compared to the weather 100 years ago, a complete opposite to the rain, snow, and mud filled shell holes the soldiers had to fight their way through. It was a fantastic day for us, one of the most poignant scenes for me was the 3,598 pairs of boots that were laid out around the memorial, a pair for each man who died on the 9th, April 1917, including my great uncle. The following day, my friend and guide Francis, and another new friend visited La Chaudiere Military Cemetery where my uncle is buried, and had a little Commemoration service of our own for him. I was able to fulfil several photo requests, and wish I could have done more. I would like to go back again some day.
UPDATE 10/01/2022 Still here despite Covid-19, mainly stuck at home for the past two years, and unable to visit any Graveyards due to lack of transport, I live in a rural area, and no longer drive.
