I recently visited Palestine Cemetery in Carlisle County where my grandparents are buried and was surprised at the number of stones that were broken or missing and came home with a mission to photograph all of the remaining stones and post them on www.findagrave.com. I helped my grandfather (Papa Petty) Leonard Petty, who was the caretaker of the cemetery; mow the grass in the cemetery. I helped by cutting and cleaning the grass from and around the stones.

Several years ago Bob and Carolyn Milner's started recording names and produced a cemetery book which I used as a guide to identify the graves. Several other people had already added information which really helped. Many trips were made to the cemetery to photograph the stones but there were still some that were unable to read because the stones need to be cleaned to produce quality pictures. Another problem found was the glare from the sun on stones when photographing. Anyone with family members buried at Palestine may contact me at [email protected] to update information.

I am a graduate of Murray State University with a Master's, + 30, Rank 1 in Library Science, recently retired as Librarian from Paducah Tilghman High School after 24 years. I also was elementary librarian in Ballard Co. 1986-1988 and was Ballard/Carlisle/Livingston Public Library Bookmobile Librarian 1975-1985. A charter member of Ballard/Carlisle Historical Society; Charter & Board member of Carlisle Museum and Library; Carlisle County Party Line Homemakers; KLA/KSMA; FDLA; RTA; NEA; I have been involved in genealogy since I was in the sixth grade when my teacher Gladys Lovelace Williams, introduced me to tracing my family tree and have helped many families with their roots.
Married to Joe A. Adams and the mother of three children, Beverly Barnhill, recently deceased, Amy Davis and husband Chuck, Joey A. Adams and wife Lisa. Three grandchildren Michael McNeil and wife Abby, Michelle Housman and husband Eric, and Kelsey Mantle.
