I became interested in genealogy in 1980 after an uncle passed away leaving a number of notes of the family he had visited and how they fitted into the overall picture. I started to trace all the descendants of my great great grandparents and their nine children using his notes as a guide.
Using a typewriter to assemble the data was frustrating because each new entry meant a retyping. Buying a computer and the genealogy software in 1998 was a good move because it eliminated all that typing as well as keeping the data for each family nicely organized.
Ancestry.com has helped immensely in providing the census records when they have been transcribed and released-- no more long hours at the library searching records and making handwritten notes. My files were regularly updated as new information came to my attention. I printed books of a number of the branches of the tree for interested relatives
Through the Find a Grave linking feature I’m now able to make good use of 30 years of research by connecting the children to their parents.
