I come from a family with an extensive background. It started with my Great Aunt Thelma. She did on-site research in the 1970's and was able to research the family lineage on the maternal side of her family back to Norman the Conqueror! I picked up the bug and between my Grandmother and Mom, I have been doing extensive research thru Ancestry.com, family bibles, records, and pictures, I was able to validate most of Aunt Thelma's book and research my Dad's side of the family to our first descendant in America in 1636. In my quest to research both sides of my family, I have found Find-A-Grave to be an extremely useful tool and have been updating fmily memorials to assist others in their quest.
