I started researching genealogy in 2005, but really got serious about it in 2013 when we discovered a box of old pictures left us by our parents. Not only pictures but also several booklets; one in participular documenting the arrival of our ancestors from Germany to the wilds of Cedarburg, WI - the Christian Groth family - 4 Groth brothers and a married sister, and later their parents (Christian) and the 2 remaining brothers who were detained finishing their tour of duty. This family was one of the founding families of Cedarburg, WI and of Trinity Lutheran Church there. The booklet commenerates their arrival in 1842 and the 100th anniversary dated 1942, and details many generations thereafter. Along with research a cousin has widely done, these are the following families in our genealogy: Walter, Walther, Griese, Groth, Dobberpuhl, Klug, Radue, Lawrence, Lang, Kroening, Kasten, Sibilsky, Raether, Harmann, Schmeling, Bitzan, Prokupek, and Toebe. That's my husbands side.

My side has also unearthed treasured photos connected to: Thompson, Chilton, Becker, Woods, Hartman, Dodson, Satterfield/Sutterfield, Wright, Boggs, Hall, Rosebrough, Roddy, Wallen, Simms, Westover, Stockton, Grider. The question-what to do with this information - that's when we found Find A Grave, the perfect spot to memorize loved ones with their pictures, and link spouses, their children, the parents, and include their maiden and married names to make it easier for generations to come to find their ancestors. It's been quite a journey thus far putting all this information out there!
