Bio

I've been interested in my family history for as long as I can remember, but the older members of my family never shared much. I'm not sure if they didn't want to relive the hard times or if they just figured that we (the children/grandchildren) weren't interested. Whatever the reasons, they are no longer with us and I wish that I'd asked more questions.
I descend from the Pioneers of Texas and Louisiana, soldiers of most every American war, including both sides of the American Civil War. I can proudly claim General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson as my cousin and an Uncle, General Gordon Granger.
I LOVE research. In fact, it takes up most of my time. I am an avid cemetery walker and enjoy learning the history of those who rest within them.
I began my "hobby", and I use that term loosely, while living in the Texas Hill Country many years ago. I was intrigued by the graves of pioneers who'd met their demise at the hands of the Comanche. My mind would run wild imagining what that life was really like. I'd take photos of the most interesting monuments/headstones and search the internet to learn more, and so -my obsession with American history began.
This could be your reason for being here, or maybe you're looking for someone, a family member/ancestor/friend's resting place and you need some help. This is another reason I'm here. I love helping others locate their "missing" ancestors and I contribute photos when I have time.

My focus for over 20 years has been researching the Samuel Jordan (1813-1868) and wife, Lucy Ann (Smith) Jordan lines--And their VA, TN, TX history to include Samuel's brother, John.
I am the 3rd Great Granddaughter of Samuel & Lucy Ann Smith Jordan.

Any and all help with information on Samuel's resting place will be appreciated and cherished as I have exhausted all avenues, but not given up hope finding him.
There is no death certificate, but I found that he passed away in January of 1868, in or near Panola County, Texas. His wife, Lucy filed Intestate on the 28th of January, 1868, Panola County, Texas.
Sam'l was born in VA along with his brother John F. Jordan. Sam b. 1813 +/- 1 yr., John F. b. 1805+/-1 yr.
They came to Texas in 1835/1836 and served in the Texas Militia out of Jasper, Tx, San Augustine County.
John was in the Confederacy, but was honorably discharged due to "old age" (56) and "Disease of the bowel". Until this discharge, John F lived with his brother Sam'l and his wife, Lucy and children on all census 1850 & 1860, then Lucy is alone with some of her younger children on the 1870 Panola County Tx census. No Sam'l, no John F.
They left no trail. And what's worse is we have no idea who their parents (back in VA) were.
But, I will keep searching until I no longer find it amusing.
Thanks for reading and let me know what I can do to. Help you-
