For My Mother
By:Janet E. Meadows
I didn't just lose the woman that taught me to take my first steps. I lost the woman who taught me to walk over and over again.
I didn't just lose the woman who taught me to feed myself, I lost the woman who fed me when I couldn't feed myself.
I didn't just lose the woman that taught me to dress myself, I lost the woman who dressed me when I couldn't dress myself.
I didn't just lose the woman who taught me how to drive, I lost the woman who fought for me to have the right to drive.
I didn't just lose the woman who took me to my first day of school, I lost the woman who fought for me to have the right go to school.
I didn't just lose my mother I lost my championship fighter.
I lost the woman who could push me harder than anyone else .
I lost the one person who would do battle with me till neither of us had any blood left to give, but who would still love me unconditionally when it was over.
When I didn't think I couldn't go any farther she pushed me one more step one more battle. "I can't" was never acceptable.
My mother pushed me to success when no one else thought I could.
Mother's of disabled children are a breed apart.
My Mom never treated me like I had.a disability but she never forgot it and made sure I had the rights and privileges of everyone else.

My name is Margaret Regina Rathbone Meadows, I am the 4th child of the late Orville William and Margaret Carleen Cody Rathbone. I am also the oldest surviving member of my family. My sister's Mary Alice Rathbone, Ruby Lee Rathbone Caldwell, Hester Rosetta Rathbone Cagle and Sally Katheryn Rathbone and one brother Raymond Elic "Dutch" Rathbone have all passed away. Leaving me and my younger sister Amanda Evelyn Rathbone Meadows as the last living children of our parents.

After my Father died in 1976 my mother lived with my family which included my husband and children until her death in 2004.

I have been married to my husband Virgil Lee Meadows, Sr. for 56 years. My only son passed away in 1980 and I have one living daughter.
