Stonemason is the meaning of the Gaelic clochaire, translated to Clogher in Ireland and Clougher in the US. An apt name for a memorial searcher. The McClaughrys were planters settled in Ireland after 1648 from Scotland, first in Donegal and then in Longford (Newtownforbes, Clonebroney, Cleghill) across the Shannon River from Roscommon where the Cloghers were. The Presbyterians were treated as dissenters from the Anglican Church as were the Catholics and many decided to migrate in 1729. Being from Ireland, when they poured into Philadelphia, they were greeted as "those damned Irish". My Cloghers were Roman Catholic, and my father came over in 1923. My wife's family is from Maine, Althea Mitchell Coombs being her second great grandmother through her daughter Altha Coombs Manson. Brewster is a biggie.
