Bio

Ste. Genevieve Missouri Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Camp # 326 is named after Lt. Col. J. Felix St. James of the 13th Missouri Infantry. He was mortally wounded on 6 April 1862 at the Battle of Shiloh in Tennessee and died on 8 April 1862.

The names in the Virtual Cemeteries listed on this page were in one way or another connected to the County of Ste. Genevieve, MO. Either by birth, lived in the County at time of entry into service or after, or buried in the County.

Qualified service includes the Enrolled Missouri Militia (EMM), Provisional Enrolled Missouri Militia (PEMM), Missouri Volunteer Infantry, Cavalry, or Artillery Units, and all Federal Military Service (Army. Navy, & Marine Corps).

We also recognize the service and sacrifices made by those who choose to serve in the many CSA Units also from Missouri and this County. These men can be found on this page as well.

Ste. Genevieve SUVUW applied for permission to form the Lt. Col. J. Felix St. James Camp #326 on October 15, 2008. Our date of rank as a charter member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is February 27, 2009.

Our namesake, Lt. Col. J. Felix St. James, died at the Battle of Shiloh in April 1862, Later his brother, Gustavus St. Gem, penned a poem titled "Shiloh" to commemorate his death. The poem was printed in later newspapers but we recently discovered a handwritten copy of the poem signed by Gustavus in the collections of the State Historical Society of Missouri.
