Hello!

I started on Find-a-Grave in October 2015.

I have received training from and volunteered for the Rhode Island Historic Cemetery Commission (RIHCC). I have also completed a project for Rhode Island College based upon my fieldwork.

Throughout 2015 and 2016, I had been exploring and documenting the nearly 100 historic cemeteries within Johnston. My focus was on those which had not been previously documented on FindaGrave.

Any edits, suggestions, questions, etc. are welcome!

MAIN CONTRIBUTIONS:
~~Johnston Cemetery Listings~~
I've made sure that every historical cemetery in Johnston [that I know of] is now listed on Find-a-Grave under both its common name (e.g. "John Smith Lot") and its state-designated name (e.g. "Rhode Island Historical Cemetery Johnston #1").

List of all Johnston cemeteries by number: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=csr&CScn=rhode+island+historical+cemetery+johnston&CScntry=0&CSst=0

If a cemetery has no known names of individuals or has been destroyed, I've made a virtual cemetery page for it. I'm unable to post photos to virtual cemetery pages, but feel free to ask since I do have some.

~~Photos~~
I upload my photos for persons who:
- do not already have an equivalent photo.
- have a noticeably-outdated photo.
- have a poor quality photo.

I generally do not upload my photos for persons who:
- already have a clear, up-to-date photo (though I'd still be glad to if you submit a photo request or email).

*Not every single photo I post is personally taken. However, sources are properly cited in the comments and they're posted for educational/research purposes only.

~~GPS Coordinates~~
As I've been photographing, I've been sure to confirm and add GPS coordinates to lots that I've visited. This allows for them to appear on the FaG "County Mapper" utility and provides a permanent spatial reference point.

~~Statewide Comprehensive Listings~~
You'd be surprised how many of Rhode Island's historical cemeteries are yet to be listed here on FaG. As time permits, I have been working making sure all of the states' cemeteries:
- are listed on Find-a-Grave by their lot name.
- are also listed by their state-designated name.
- have GPS coordinates (if already known)
(As of 2020, I have completed most of Bristol, Kent, & Providence counties. Newport and Washington County are in Progress.)

~~Sources~~
I get my information from a mix of sources:
- personal fieldwork (visiting sites in-person)
- residents and relatives I meet while onsite
- the RIHCC database
- other Find-A-Grave members' suggestions :)
- James Arnold's cemetery records catalog (1800s)

Some personal ancestry info:
Lineage: Italian, Welch, & Scottish
Associated surnames: Hobson, Hogan, Santopietro/St. Peter/Pietrosanta, Whitton/Whitten, DeRobbio/DiRobbio/D'Robbio, Rapa/Rappa
Ancestors' US states: RI, AL, AR, GA,NC?
