Bio

My name is Robert McLernon. I live in Northern Virginia. I have researched the Irish Brigade for 34 years. Part of this work has been to track down burial sites for men of the 63rd, 69th, 88th New York, 28th Massachusetts and the 116th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Civil War. I maintain lists for all five regiments, two lists for each regiment, one confirmed, the other unconfirmed. Whenever I get information about the burial of any soldier from these five regiments, from whatever source, I consider it unconfirmed, until I can prove to my satisfaction (confirmation) that the soldier is buried where I think he is. Find A Grave has been a great help in finding these burials. There can be no question about a photo of a headstone with the regiment on it. One of the first things I do is find the soldier in the unit roster. If he is not there, I try to find out why not. I have had a lot of trouble with some of these. I would suggest this should be done for any Civil War soldier. John Gifford, Arlington National Cemetery, is credited to the 28th MA but he is not in the unit roster(a 30 year mystery, not the only one). I Google a cemetery name to get contact information.
The Sons of Union Veterans track down the burial site of any Union Soldier. www.suvcwdb.org/ There are a lot of errors, so watch out.
Find A Grave has some Virtual Cemeteries by regiment.
Google "Irish Brigade Robert McLernon" and find some of the things I have online. dmnya "Irish Brigade" I have burial lists in this for the three New York regiments. There are New York State regimental rosters there, as well. Neil Scheidt and I now have Virtual Cemeteries for all five Irish Brigade regiments.
