Bio

Greetings!

My name is David Parker, and I was born in Hamilton, Ohio in 1962, the son of Mervin Parker, and the grandson of Richard Parker.

The Parkers of Southeast Kentucky migrated from Virginia/North Carolina, to Tennessee following the Boone Trace and then settled in Northern Laurel/Jackson/Clay and Knox Counties in Southeast Kentucky. Many settled (near what is called Mershon's Crossroads) in Laurel County, Kentucky. A "Kentucky Centennial" memorial stone marks that place. Two of the original Parker farms, just a few hundred yards from x-roads are still owned by Parker descendants. It has been said that, "Parkers never fall too far from the tree", and well over a hundred Parker descendants dot the multiple cemeteries within a five mile radius.

It has also been said that Parkers were fighting men. Some fought in the Indian Wars, Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War, WW 1 and 2, and my father served during the Korean conflict. Some were Lawyers, Doctors, Educators, Politicians, Business men...but most were farmers. When jobs were scarce, some migrated north to Hamilton, Ohio to work at the Champion Paper Mill. My grandfather Richard was born near Crossroads but found work at the Champion Paper Co. in Hamilton, Ohio and worked there for over 20 years. He passed away a few months before his retirement in 1975.

I descend as follows:

Daniel Parker, 1750-1848, b. Chowan, NC - d. Jefferson Co., IN.

My mother's family is also from London, Laurel Co. KY. Her parents were William Stanford Hodges, the son of Pleasant L. Hodges, the son of James P. Hodges (all of Laurel Co.) the son of James Hodges of VA.

W.S. Hodges wife Lonia Johnson, was the daughter of Allen Johnson and Hannah Doan. Allen Johnson was the son of Hiram B. Johnson and Martha Lincks and his parents were Joseph Johnson and Phoebe Young (daughter of Rev. John F. Young), all of Laurel Co. KY.

Phoebe (YOUNG) Johnson (1799-1876) and, Polly (YOUNG) Parker (1797-1885), were sisters.

My mother was named Gladys and she was the youngest daughter of William Stanford Hodges and Lonia Johnson.
