Bio

I am originally from Texarkana, AR. I met my husband in Murfreesboro, TN., a few miles from Nashville. We were married on March 19, 1988. We now live on the Central Coast in California, and have 3 beautiful children. I grew up beside the old Cotton Belt Railway Hospital in Texarkana, AR. I am searching for my long lost family, and researching my family history under these surnames: Bryan/O'Bryan/Bryant, Beauchamp, Cagle, Jackson/Ellis, Martin, McKamie, Goode/Good, & Smith.

"Why do I do Find a Grave? Well, in the words of Ron West (find a grave ID: 47389384): For those of you who are looking for forgotten relatives, loved ones, friends and family, I just want to say to you that I do what I do here on Find A Grave, for you. No one should be forgotten! We may not all be rich, or famous, or powerful, or have invented great things but we all made a difference in some way and we deserve to be remembered for the differences we've made. If just by creating a memorial page, I feel that I have done something to remember that person and that they did live and that they did matter..." ~ these words are by Ron West (find a grave ID: 47389384). This really touched me. I feel the exact "same" way.

In my own words I would say,... "The past isn't the past - it isn't even over"...

I got into genealogy trying to help my mother find her dad, and to find the answers to the questions that she had about her dad, an had been asking all of her life. She had been searching for her dad, and for these answers all of her life. Her dad died when she was 3 years old of a heart attack, and her mother died when she was 4 in a tragic car wreck; so her family history never got passed down to her. It was very hard to find any info. on her dad going back to his original birth/family of origin - because (unknown to me at the time) he had changed his name/identity in 1917 from Sumner Jackson Ellis to Sumner E. Jackson. Praise God! Joy* I finally found him on Feb. 18, 2017 on ancestry.com by erasing the name Sumner Ellis Jackson, and typing in Sumner Jackson Ellis into my family tree. I found this information/alternate identity/original family/birth name (on familysearch.org in a 1900 census record for Warren, N.C.). I knew it was him when I saw that his birthday on that census record was the same date that I had for him under his new name (July 14th). I also found a marriage record of his first marriage to Kate Hudson with his original birth name in it on familysearch.org, in Danville, VA. in 1911 which matched his new name that I had on my mothers' records. All of his other records/info. started popping up (after I erased Sumner Ellis Jackson, and typed in Sumner Jackson Ellis) into my family tree; including all of his photos so that I was able to figure out what had happened, and see who he really was. I also have records of Sumner Ellis "Jackson" being divorced from Kate Hudson in Danville, VA, with the same dates, and the same set of parents, under his new identity, and new name (Sumner Ellis Jackson). I also have his medical records, C file from the military, and his Social Security papers under the Social Security No.'s for both of his names. Jack is the same person under both of his identities. I know that I have all the proof that I need to show that this is true, and accurate information. I knew it was him when I first saw his photo on ancestry.com. It matched the photo that I had in my family album. I almost cried, but at the same time, I was too happy to. Thank God there is a way to have a permanent record here on findagrave.com to document all of this. Praise God! Joy* and many blessings to all the others out there who are praying, and searching for answers, and information on their family's history/ancestors. I hope, and pray that with God's help you will succeed in finding them*

Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the Lord.
~ Psalm 102:18.

My feelings are in each family we are called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones, and make them live again. To tell the family story, and to feel that somehow they know, and approve. To me, doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the story tellers of the tribe. We have been called as it were by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us, "Tell our story." So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now, and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors you have a wonderful family, you would be proud of us? How many times have I walked up to a grave, and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who I am, and why I do the things I do. It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds, and indifference, and saying I can't let this happen. The bones here are bones of my bone, and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish. How they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships, and their losses, their never giving in, or giving up. Their resoluteness to go on, and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that they fought to make, and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep, and immense understanding that they were doing it for us that we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So we do. With love, and caring, and scribing each fact of their existence; Because we are them, and they are us. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation...
To answer the call, and take their place in the long line of family storytellers. That is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young, and old to step up, and put flesh on the bones.
