Bio

In 2006 I became interested in Oregon Historic Cemetery preservation and Oregon history. Findagrave is a natural next step in cemetery preservation and genealogical research. Findagrave volunteers are the eyes and ears in cemeteries helping to reduce vandalism by their presence. Volunteers are creating an invaluable research archive with photographs, genealogical information and many beautiful tributes. Thanks to Findagrave members I have seen some family photographs and grave sites for the very first time. The time and effort findagrave members volunteer to build this site is very much appreciated.

A history project conceived in the Centennial year of the Oregon Department, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861-1865 is to pay tribute to past Tent members, Civil War Ancestors and Grand Army of the Republic Comrades whose names appear in the organization's early membership rosters. We also recognize Civil War Nurses and others who supported Union troops during and after the Civil War by placing a red rose on their memorial page. A red rose is the ultimate symbol of admiration and respect and the red Mr. Lincoln rose is the official rose representing Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861-1865.

Another interest is Oregon Pioneer Rose history. Many individuals have preserved the stories of Oregon's first roses and Findagrave is a place to remember and honor these dedicated Rose Keepers. Many Old Oregon roses were planted on the graves of the pioneers who brought their cherished family roses out west.
