I'm working on the history of the Catholic churches in Chariton, Iowa. The first was St. Mary's, built in 1869 by Fr. Bernard P. McMenomy. In 1915, a parishioner donated land and Sacred Heart Church was built under the guidance of Fr. James P. McGillin.
