Louis Albertson Brown Jr., 92, died Oct. 31, 2012, at his home. He was better known around the area as "The Candy Cane Airplane Man."
He was born on June 19, 1920, in Salina, Kan., to the late Louis A. Brown Sr. and Maud E. (Rodwell) Slyter.

He made over 2,000 candy airplanes last year and 200,000 over his lifetime. They were constructed out of small candy canes, a slat of foil wrapped chewing gum, 2 mini marshmallows for wheels, a toothpick and one rubberband. On the piece of gum he placed his tag. (as you can see in the picture of his little planes)
He handed them out to people all around Benton County, AR.

Mr. Brown drove the city bus in Wichita, Kan., Pine Bluff and Fayetteville for over 25 years and in Little Rock in the '50s and mid '60s. Then he went to work for Emerson Electric for the next 20 years before retiring.

He was a member of the Arkansas State Guard, organized during WWII.

He is survived by his two sons, Joe Brown and Robert Brown, both of Rogers. He also leaves four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Brown in February of 1991; daughter-in-law, Nancy Brown; two brothers, Jack and Richard Slyter; and one sister, Marie Rolland.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Rogers on Olive and 8th Street. Burial will follow at Rogers Cemetery, Rogers, AR.

I met Mr Brown for the first time in 2008 when he came by the office where I work. He had his little airplanes for all of us. He loved handing them out and seemed so pleased when one of them brought a smile to your face. He was always so cheerful and full of life. You could tell he got so much joy out of passing out his little candy airplanes. In 2010 he brought each of us a plane plus a picture of himself with Santa and a pic of him when he was a child. The back of that picture says, "Louis Albertson Brown, on our way to Christmas Parade 1924, Wichita, Kansas."
Even as a small four and a half year old boy you can see the Christmas sparkle in his eyes.
He was missed this year, him and his little planes.
God bless you, my special friend.

"For everything there is a season,
and a time for every purpose under Heaven:
a time to be born, a time to die,
a time to plant, a time to uproot,
a time to weep, a time to laugh,
a time to grieve, a time to dance"

Don't Cry for me...

If you could only see where I'm at now, you wouldn't cry for me. All of Heavens Angels met me when I arrived and I was met by Jesus with a loving embrace. I walked side by side with old friends and family alike. Don't cry for me because here there is no trace of sickness or sadness only His loving Grace. The beauty is beyond words and nothing I could say would compare. Don't cry for me because I am in a far better place, with streets of gold just like we were told. So please remember don't cry for me but rather rejoice for I can hear angels sing. Oh, how much peace their voices bring.

You can shed tears that I am gone.
Or you can smile because I lived.
You can close your eyes
and pray that I will come back
Or you can open your eyes
and see all that I left.
Your heart can be empty
because you can't see me
Or you can be full
of the love we shared
You can turn your back on tomorrow
and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow
because of yesterday.
You can remember me
and only that I am gone
Or you can cherish my memory
and let it live on.
You can cry and close your mind,
be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what I'd want:
smile, open your eyes,
love and go on.
