After graduating from Millsaps College, Clayton Maynor, son of Robert F. and Effie Lee Milligan Maynor, accepted a teaching position in the Mississippi Delta. One weekend during his first year of teaching, Clayton came home to Jackson for a visit and met Millsaps freshman Grace Mason at a fraternity party. Four years later they were married. Clayton left the teaching profession after a few years and spent the rest of his career in the cottonseed business. He and Grace enjoyed almost fifty-nine years of marriage before his death in 1994.
