You may have researched your line and found that Col. Samuel moved his family to rural Mecklenburg County, VA, just prior to the Revolution. His father had purchased land there, and Samuel feared for the safety of his family if they stayed in York County. He was right--the Dedman property in York County was only a few miles south of the site of the Battle of Yorktown.
My research shows that Samuel's son Philip moved his family from Mecklenburg County to Madison County, Alabama. The property in Mecklenburg County, Virginia was just north of present day Skipwith. It was called Hallstone, but that name is defunct. I show Philip's son Richard DeCabb Dedman (Sr) was born in Madison County, AL, but his son Richard (Jr) wsa born in Holly Springs, Arkansas. My records currently indicate that Richard (Sr) and Permalia Ann Marshall had nine children, and that Richard (Jr) was the eighth. I have found so many mistakes in the records, it is hard to rely on much of anything. I would appreciate any corrections you may have.
