Obituary at the New York Times February 26, 1889

Ethelinda Vanderbilt wife of Daniel B. Allen and second daughter of the late Cornelius Vanderbilt, died at her residence 632 Fifth-avenue, yesterday morning of pneumonia, after an illness of several months. She was distinguished for her attractive personal presence, her sunny nature, and her Christian spirit. Mrs. Allen would have been 72 years old had she lived to March 8. She leaves, with her husband, four children, Franklin Allen of Brooklyn, Colonel Vanderbilt Allen and Harry Allen, and Mrs. John Wallace. Her husband was closely allied with Commodore Vanderbilt in his shipping interests. Funeral services will be held at the family residence on Thursday morning, at 10 o'clock, by the Rev. D. Parker Morgan, Rector of the Church of the Heavenly Rest. The interment will be at Woodlawn.
