Wilburn Dean Looney was the younger of two sons born to Clyde Yancy Looney and Ethel Mintie Sloan Looney. He grew up in Missouri living in Harrisonville, Burlington Junction and Caldwell County. He graduated from New York High School in Caldwell County, Missouri in 1949. He was married to Myrlene Jane Farr and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany. After the Army he attended telegraphy school and became a depot agent for the Rock Island Railroad, serving in Enterprise, Kansas at the time of his death. He died in his sleep on a Sunday morning in March, due to an irregular heart beat known as arrhythmia. He was also an active member and trustee in the Baptist Church in Enterprise. He has two children, Renee Hood and David Looney.
