Singer. Founding member of the music ensemble The Miracles. Ironically, Rogers was born on the same day and in the same Detroit hospital as Smokey Robinson. His association with Robinson can be traced back to his high school days in Detroit, as a member of the early Miracles incarnation named The Matadors. After changing their name to the Miracles, they experienced their break in the industry in 1960, as they signed with Motown Records during the label's early years. They earned a million selling record, as the score "Shop Around" (1960) reached number two on the Pop-Charts. Additional Top-20 hits included "You've Really Got A Hold On Me" (1963), "Ooo Baby Baby" (1965), "The Tracks Of My Tears" (1965), "I Second The Emotion" (1967) and "Tears Of A Clown" (1970). In addition to singing, Rogers was acknowledged as the best dancer of the group and had a hand in their songwriting. After Robinson departed to pursue a solo career, Rogers took over and under his leadership The Miracles achieved a number one hit with "Love Machine (Part 1)" (1975). After moving on from the music industry, he founded his own interior design business. He was formerly married to The Marvelettes' singer Wanda Young. The Miracles received a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in 2009. Rogers was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as part of The Miracles in 2012. He died following a lengthy illness.
