Major League Baseball Player. For seven seasons (1955 to 1961), he played at the first-baseman position with the Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians and New York Yankees. He was raised in Chicago, Illinois, where he attended Lake View High School. Selected by the St. Louis Browns during the 1952 Amateur Draft, he marked his Major League debut following the franchise's relocation to Baltimore on July 4th, 1955. Hale's impact was immediate as he yielded a career-high 65 hits with a .357 batting average in 67 games and the following season (1956), he shared first base duties with Bob Boyd. Hale concluded his career in 1961 as a member of the Yankees' team for which captured the world championship that year. In 376 regular season games, he compiled 171 hits with a .273 lifetime batting average. After retiring from baseball, he went onto become a elementary school principal.
