Musician. Born in Hot Springs, Arkansas, she rose to prominence during the 1930s as a cast member of the string band, the Prairie Ramblers on Chicago's WLS National Barn Radio Show. In 1935, she recorded "I Wanna Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart", which made her the first female country recording artist to sell a million records. As a solo act, she made extensive tours and played many radio engagements to include CBS radio's Louisiana Hayride during the 1940s. Moving to California in 1952, she resumed touring and recording in the 1960s to 1990s. She died in San Jacinto, California, and was posthumously elected into the Country Music Hall of Fame.
