Shirley Federer, 83, of Midland, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011, at Brittany Manor in Midland. She was born Feb. 29, 1928, in Midland, daughter of the late Frank F. and Ethel M. (Crawford) Woodcock. On June 3, 1950 she was married to Paul Federer at St. Brigid Catholic Church in Midland. He preceded her in death April 21, 2001. Shirley was a lifelong resident of Midland and was employed for several years at the LaSalle Café in downtown Midland. She was a member of the Catholic faith and enjoyed going to Wixom Lake with her sister, Bev, and being with her family for special occasions and dinners.

Surviving are her two daughters and their spouses, Mary and Dennis Haney of Midland, and Paula and Ray Nies of Sanford; three grandchildren, Jason, Stephanie, and Andrew Nies, all of Sanford; her sister, Beverly Dryer and her husband Bill, of Midland; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by one brother, Delos Woodcock; and two sisters, Norma Brooks, and Norene Woodcock.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011, from the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 W. Wheeler St., Midland. Deacon Mike Jankowiak, of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church will officiate, with committal services to follow in the Homer Township Cemetery. Shirley's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until services.

While residing at Brittany Manor, Shirley enjoyed getting her hair done on a weekly basis. Her family would ask that any donations in her name be made to Brittany Manor Hair Care Fund, so other residents may enjoy getting their hair done, also.
