Author, Screenwriter, and Playwright. Born Eugene Luther Gore Vidal, he is known for writing the screenplays of acclaimed films, including "Suddenly, Last Summer" by Joseph L. Mankiewicz and "Ben Hur" by William Wyler. After the Second World War, he lived for a long time in Italy, where he also acted in films by Federico Fellini. Literary critics consider "The City and the Pillar" (1948) and "Myra Breckinridge" to be his most polemic novels against social conformism. However, he has written and published numerous works, including "Williwaw," "Burr," "Live from Golgotha: The Gospel According to Gore Vidal," and the essays, "Reflections Upon a Sinking Ship", "The Second American Revolution," "Decline and Fall of the American Empire" and "Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace or How We Came To Be So Hated." Returning to the U.S. after the death of his partner, Howard Auster, he lived at his home in Los Angeles, California, where he passed away due to pneumonia.
