Actor. He is best remembered for his starring role in the award-winning film "Bicycle Thieves" (1948) directed by Vittorio De Sica, regarded by many as one of the greatest masterpieces of Italian neorealism film. During a twenty-year career as an actor, Maggiorani worked with the greatest masters of Italian cinema, film directors such as Giorgio Bianchi in the film "Vent´anni" (1949), Sergio Corbucci in "Salvate mia figlia" (1951), Dino Risi in "Vacanze col gangster" (1952) and Pier Paolo Pasolini in "Mamma Roma" (1962). In 1963, he acted in the epic drama film "Cleopatra" directed by Joseph Leo Mankiewicz. Among his other film credits, "Umberto D" (1952) by Vittorio De Sica, "Toto, Peppino ei fuorilegge" (1956) by Camillo Mastrocinque , "Mare matto" (1963) by Renato Castellani and "Ostia" (1970) directed by Sergio Citti. He died at the age of seventy-four.
