Staff Sgt. Matthew Alan "Matt" Kimmell, age 30 of Worthington died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005 in Muqdadiyah, Iraq, he formerly lived at Paxton in Sullivan County. He was assigned to the 5th. Special Forces Group based at Ft. Campbell, KY. He was a 1992 graduate of Faith Christian School in Carlisle, then attended Vincennes University before enlisting in the National Guard and later serving as an Army Ranger. He worked 3 years as a sheriffs deputy in Vanderburgh County and re-enlisted in the Army in 2001. Matt went to Iraq in June. He was a member of Bible View Baptist Church in Sullivan. He married Mylissa Hall on July 27, 2002 in Worthington, she survives in Worthington. He was born Dec. 13, 1974 in Sullivan to Larry & Jeanne (Turpen) Kimmell of Paxton. He is also survived by one brother, Jeremy Kimmell, of Paxton; one sister, Susanne Kimmell of Paxton; maternal grandmother, Miriam Turpen of Paxton; his mother-in-law, Liz Hall of Worthington; brother-in-law, Christopher (Tracy) Hall of Terre Haute. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ord & Betty Kimmell; maternal grandfather, Gerald Turpen and his father-in-law John Hall. Funeral arrangements pending Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington. Burial will be in Worthington Cemetery.
