Pat was the first of four sons born to Charles Vernon and Theresa Marie Hanlon. The family moved to La Mirada, Calif., where Pat lived until being drafted by the Army in 1968. He served in the 1st Battalion, 52nd Infantry Regiment, Bravo Company, and ultimately attained the rank of sergeant.

Years after returning from Vietnam, he received his degree in psychology and went to work as an addiction therapist at Beverly Glen Hospital before accepting a position at the Veterans Administration hospital in Brentwood, which he considered his life's work and where he remained until his retirement.

A 23-year resident of the Conejo Valley, Pat loved living in Thousand Oaks. The past few years, he enjoyed camping and traveling across the country. He remained active in veterans affairs, spent quality time with family and friends, read many good books and reunited with other Vietnam veterans from his company.

Pat was a kind and thoughtful individual. He possessed and amazing sense of humor and an infectious laugh. Pat Hanlon was a magical person with a twinkle in his eys, who touched every life he came in contact with. Many will miss him.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila; mother, Mrs. Theresa Hanlon; brothers, Timothy and Colin Hanlon; sister-in-law, Eleanor Hanlon; nephew, Joseph Hanlon; children, Caren and Paul Duke, Spooner Greenbird and Theresa Ruiz; son-in-law, Jason Ruiz; and grandson, Junior Ruiz.
