Rock Singer, Songwriter. Born Ronald Belford Scott in Forfar, Angus, Scotland, he began his musical career as a bagpipe player with his father's highland band. He sang for the bands "The Valentines" and "Fraternity" before joining the hard rock band "AC/DC" in 1974, replacing singer Dave Evans. Along with guitarist brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, drummers Peter Clack & Tony Currenti and bassist Rob Bailey, the band released their debut album "High Voltage." In 1975, on their next recorded album "T.N.T.", Bon Scott played the bagpipes on the song "It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)." Through the rest of the 1970s with the addition of drummer Phil Rudd and bassists Mark Evans & Cliff Williams, AC/DC recorded a number of highly successful albums, including "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" (1976), "Let There Be Rock" (1977), "Powerage" (1978), a live release "If You Want Blood You've Got It" (1978), and finally "Highway to Hell" (1979), which reached the Top 20 (No. 17) on the U.S. album charts. Bon Scott was known for his unique powerful voice and heavy drinking lifestyle, which lead to his death of acute alcohol poisoning in February 1980. His remains were cremated and his ashes thrown to the wind; his family erected a memorial plaque to him in Fremantle Cemetery. Scott was replaced by Geordie frontman Brian Johnson and the following AC/DC album, "Back in Black" (1980), was released five months later as a tribute to Scott, becoming one of the best-selling albums of all time. In 2003, Scott was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of AC/DC.
