Sgt. 1st Class Kyle B. Wehrly, 28, died at 1 A.M. Nov. 3rd, 2005, in Ashraf, Iraq. He was born the son of Peter J. and Nita Louise Gardner Wehrly. He married Janet Kay Hays on May 8, 1999, in Galesburg, Illinois. Surviving are his wife: his daughter, Kylee Kay Wehrly, at home: his father the Rev. Peter (and Susie) Miestter Wehrly, Springfield, Illinois; his mother, Nita (and Rick) Cross, Dubuque, Iowa; His grandmothers, Betty Gardner, Macomb, Ill. and June Wehrly, Godfrey,Ill; a brother, Lance J. Wehrly, New Orleans, La.; and (3) sisters; Victoria, Jaquita, and Shanna Wehrly, all of Springfild, Illinios. He graduated from Galesburg High School in 1996 and attended Spoon River Comm. College and Carl Sandburg College. He had worked at Lowe's in Galesburg. He joined the Illinois Army National Guard on Sept.28, 1995, and was a part of Charlie Battery, 2nd battalion, 123rd field Artillery. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (4th Awrd) National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Meda, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (1st Award with "M" device), NCO Professional Development Ribbon (with numeral 3), Army Service Ribbon, Illinois Long and Honorable Service Medal (2nd Award), Illinois Military Attendance Ribbon (5th Award), Illinois State Active Duty Ribbon, Army Combat Action Badge, Expert Rifle Badge, Expert Pistol Badge and Expert Field Artillery Badge. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He had refereed soccer for the IHSA and enjoyed softball, hunting, fishing, golfing, tennis, and woodworking. Funeral is in Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs. Lee Johnson and Kirk Kendall officiating. Military Rites by the Illinois Army National Guard Honor Guard.
