Idaho Governor. The first Governor of Idaho to come in to office as a Democrat, he was born in Kentucky, and later moved to Gibbonsville, Idaho, where he worked as a miner. He served in the Spanish-American War, being chosen to be a Captain of a regiment of Idaho volunteer soldiers. He was elected to the Idaho Legislature in 1892 and nine years later he was elected governor. He replaced Frank Steunenberg who was assassinated four years after he left office. During Hunt's administration (January 7, 1901 to January 5, 1903) the Idaho State Library and Idaho State University were founded. Hunt, Idaho is named after him.
