Major League Baseball Player. For nine seasons (1970 to 1971, 1973 to 1978 and 1981), he played at the catcher position with the Detroit Tigers, Oakland Athletics and Chicago Cubs. Born Timothy Kenneth Hosley, he attended George Washington Carver High School in South Carolina and was signed as an amateur free agent by Detroit in 1966. He marked his Major League debut with the Tigers on September 8, 1970 and played in seven games that year. After he was acquired by the Athletics, Hosley served as a backup catcher to Ray Fosse and experienced two world championship runs in 1973 and 1974. While with the Cubs, he set career highs with 36 hits (including 6 home runs) in 62 games played. In 208 regular season games, he compiled 79 hits with a .215 lifetime batting average. After retiring from baseball, Hosley worked as a hitting and pitching instructor at a baseball academy.
