Actor. Prolific character actor whose career spanned five decades. He attended Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, where he studied political science. After graduating in 1970, he moved to New York City, where he earned a Masters of Fine Arts in acting from Columbia University's School of the Arts. After appearing on stage in several productions, he made his big screen debut in the show business comedy, "The Yum Yum Girls" (1976). Among the many films he appeared in were 'Silkwood' (1983), 'The House on Carroll Street' (1988), 'Desperate Hours' (1990), 'Regarding Henry' (1991), 'Shadows and Fog' (1991), 'Basic Instinct' (1992), 'Scent of a Woman' (1992), 'Guarding Tess' (1994), 'Independence Day' (1996), 'The Game' (1997), 'The Talented Mr. Ripley' (1999), 'Snow Falling on Cedars' (1999), 'Meet the Parents' (2000), 'Far From Heaven' (2002), 'Cold Mountain' (2003), 'Real Steel' (2011) and 'The Odd Life of Timothy Green' (2012). He was featured in numerous television shows including 'Kate & Allie', 'The Equalizer', 'Wiseguy', 'Seinfeld' and '30 Rock' and had recurring parts in 'Law & Order', 'Third Watch', 'Big Lake', 'Enlightened', 'The Book of Daniel', 'White Collar' and 'Homeland'. On stage he appeared in the original production of 'I'm Not Rappaport' in 1985 and in the revivals of 'Our Town', 'The Man Who Had All the Luck', 'Dinner at Eight', 'Twelve Angry Men' and 'Prelude to a Kiss'. Rebhorn died at his home, surrounded by his family, of melanoma which was first diagnosed in 1992.
