U.S. Senator. Moving with his parents to America, he settled Omaha, Nebraska, in 1856 and engaged in the land business. He became director-president, of the Omaha National Bank and was one of the incorporators of the Omaha & Northwestern Railroad Company 1869. He also was Mayor of Omaha, (1871-72) and was a director of the Union Pacific Railroad Company. In 1901, he was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate, serving until 1907. Not a candidate for reelection, he resumed his banking business interests until his death.
