US Congressman. Born in Roselle, New Jersey, the younger brother of New York Governor William A, Sulzer, he was attending the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York when he dropped out to explore Alaska and developing mining there. He became a mining magnate there, and parlayed that prominence into an election first to the Alaska Territorial Senate in 1914, then as as a Delegate from Alaska Territory to the United States House of Representatives. He served one full term from 1917 to 1919. His next term was contested by James Wickersham, and Charles Sulzer died in Alaska before Congress reconvened to decide on the seat. Despite spending most of his adult life in Alaska, his remains were returned to lie in his family's plot in New Jersey.
