Mississippi Governor. He studied law in Lebanon, Tennessee and then established a successful law practice in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Entering politics he was a member of the Mississippi State Senate, (1842-50). In February 1851, when Governor John A. Quitman resigned from office, Guion who was president of the State Senate at the time, assumed the duties as the 17th Governor of Mississippi, serving until November 4, 1851. After leaving office, he served judge of the Jackson District Circuit Court, until his death at age 52.
