For twelve seasons (1971 to 1982), he played at the defensive end and defensive tackle positions in the National Football League with the Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers and Washington Redskins. Born Wilbur Eugene Young, Jr., his initial impact on the football field was during his years at James Monroe High School in the Bronx. He earned a football scholarship to attend William Penn College in Iowa and during his years at the school, he achieved First-Team All-Conference Tackle honors twice. Additionally, he was a standout at field and track and the shot put. Selected by Kansas City during the 2nd round of the 1971 NFL Draft, he went on to play in 153 regular season games. After retiring from football, Young worked as an assistant high school football coach. He was inducted into William Penn College's Statesman Hall of Fame in 1985.
