United States Navy Admiral. He served as the Commander in Chief of the United States Pacific Command from 1991 until 1994. He served as the 51st and 55th Superintendent of the United States Naval Academy. Raised in Omaha, Nebraska, he graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1958. Commissioned in the Navy, he was assigned as a naval aviator in 1960 and saw action with "Attack Squadron 176" as he flew missions during the Vietnam War. He experienced assignments on nuclear-powered submarines and later served as a Special Assistant to the Secretary of Interior. From 1969 until 1971, he served as Naval Aide to President Richard Nixon. In 1979, he was elevated to the rank of Rear Admiral and in 1990, he rose to the rank of four-star admiral. Among the many honors Admiral Larson received during his career include the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Navy Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star.
